At one time or another, nearly every Rhode Island driver has suddenly realized that he or she needs to make a turn. The sudden deceleration and turn may cause other vehicles around it to have to stop short. Drivers may have done this numerous times without incident; but occasionally, it can lead to a car crash.
In fact, the driver who made that sudden maneuver may not even be aware that an accident took place. This is believed to be the case in a recent accident involving multiple vehicles. After the unsuspecting car quickly stopped and made its turn, other vehicles were forced to take evasive action. Unfortunately, they were not all able to avoid colliding with other vehicles.
The first car in the line to take evasive action ended up in the breakdown lane on the right. The second car ended up moving left and was rear-ended by a third car, which resulted in the second car veering into the opposing lane. The third car then moved right and hit the first car. The driver of the third vehicle was issued a citation for failing to control her vehicle.
Five people were taken to area hospitals to be treated for unspecified injuries. Depending on the severity of their injuries, the victims could be facing a lengthy recovery. Medical costs and lost wages can add up quickly in these situations, as any Rhode Island resident seriously injured in a car crash can attest. Filing a personal injury claim could result in an award of monetary damages that could alleviate those financial burdens. In order to prevail in such an action, the negligence of the party or parties responsible will need to be established.
